Opsis Announces 2017 Scholarship Winners

2017 Opsis Scholarship Winners Mia Eikani and Veronica Villarreal. Both women are expected to graduate June 2020.

Portland, Ore – November 3, 2017: Opsis is pleased to announce the two winners of the 2017 Opsis Architecture Scholarship Fund.

Since being founded in 1999, Portland, Oregon-based architectural firm Opsis has partnered with the University of Oregon College of Design Department of Architecture to offer scholarship funds for studios and programs in the department. This is the first year Opsis is offering a fund with the primary goal of providing financial assistance to students from underrepresented backgrounds who wish to pursue a profession in the field of architecture.

“We are committed to a profession that embraces equity, diversity and, above all, inclusion,” said Opsis-Principal and Partner, Alec Holser. “We are thrilled to contribute to these students’ education and greatly look forward to everything they will accomplish in their careers.”

The two recipients of the scholarship have both declared majors in architecture: Mia Eikani and Veronica Villarreal.

Eikani is working toward a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in the History of Art and Architecture. She is originally from Alamo, California.

Villarreal is also working toward a Bachelor of Architecture and is originally from Santa Barbara, California.

Both women are expected to graduate June 2020. They have received this scholarship for 2017-2018 academic year to support their education and pursuit of a degree from the Department of Architecture at the University of Oregon.

“Receiving this scholarship has helped me to make the most of my experiences in school by pushing myself even more as a student and designer,” said Eikani. “My goal has been and continues to be to develop and produce innovative and exciting work that is sensitive to the needs of the community that I represent.”

The Opsis Architecture Scholarship Fund is offered on an annual basis. Candidates will be considered and reviewed by the University of Oregon Financial Aid Department prior to every Fall term.
