With the existing 70-year-old school no longer meeting the needs of today’s learners, the district passed its 2024 bond to replace the middle school with a new 115,000 sf school that will support students with flexible, future-ready learning environments.
Size: 115,000 sf
Location: Molalla, OR
The design of the new school draws inspiration from Molalla’s unique location and nature, featuring a warm, wood multi-purpose dining commons. Core instruction is centered around a neighborhood model – a cluster of three classroom spaces and one science lab centered around a flexible learning space and small, shared group room. This will allow students to spend more time within their grade community and in a developmentally safe environment.
The school will include general classrooms, career and technical education (CTE) spaces with an outdoor learning courtyard, fine and performing arts space with a small studio theater, life skills and specialized instruction spaces, library, an administration and counseling center, as well as a three-court gymnasium.
Currently under construction at the site of the old school, the new Molalla River Middle School is anticipated to open in the fall of 2027.
