Campus Center Renovation

UO Portland

When the University of Oregon relocated its Portland campus to the former Concordia University site, it created a need for a student-centered hub that supports wellbeing, access to resources and connection. The Campus Center transformed an outdated, difficult-to-navigate building into a campus anchor that links academic buildings and brings students together.

An “addition by subtraction” approach shaped the renovation. Targeted demolition removed barriers to light and movement, while a new double-height glass façade opens the building to the campus quad, introducing daylight and clear sightlines to draw students inward. Interior glass elements further enhance visibility and wayfinding, unifying the building across levels.

The renovation creates a flexible, welcoming environment that supports how students move and gather throughout the day. The Campus Center acts as both a primary circulation route and a “sticky space” for students to pause for study, collaboration and rest.

Integrated student support and wellness spaces reinforce a holistic approach to student experience, while refreshed interiors, updated systems and UO branded graphics establish a strong sense of identity.

The Campus Center serves as the social and physical heart of the Portland campus. The reimagined space fosters connection, supports student wellbeing and shapes a cohesive campus experience.
