Concord Community Center honored with a 2026 Restore Oregon DeMuro Award

The Concord Community Center was one of nine historic projects across Oregon honored by Restore Oregon with a 2026 DeMuro Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation. The DeMuro Awards are the state’s highest honor for the preservation, reuse and revitalization of architectural and cultural sites.

The adaptive reuse of the historic Concord School, led by Opsis Architecture with historic preservation consultant Architectural Resources Group, converted a vacant educational facility into an all ages community center for North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD), alongside a new neighborhood park and Clackamas County Oak Lodge Library. The former school turned community center now supports a range of uses, including gymnasium and stage, group exercise rooms, public meeting rooms and NCPRD’s offices.

“Of special note in this year’s awardees is the historic Concord School now reused as a community center. It was saved from demolition because of a grassroots community advocacy effort that included participation in [Restore] Oregon’s Most Endangered Places program. Seeing the transformation into a DeMuro Award-winning project shows the impact and power of Restore Oregon’s work when coupled with an aligned community effort and a committed owner” – Nicole Possert, Executive Director of Restore Oregon.
